About me

I am a food technology teacher and school catering manager at Dwr Y Felin comprehensive school and also the South Wales Evening Post 'chef'. I am passionate about people having access to lovely honest and simple food.

My passion for food started young and cooking became a way out of an education system that I didn't seem to fit, leaving me in danger of becoming just another disaffected kid. I went on to cook professionally in hotels and restaurants, but after 20 years I felt that getting back into the classroom as a teacher might offer an exciting new challenge and get local kids eating well. It certainly has been challenging - but also hugely rewarding. Managing school catering and teaching children has been a steep learning curve - with my fantastic team of school cooks and the kids at Dwr Y Felin teaching me just as much as I have taught them. The new skills and approaches we have shared means we are now producing great school grub.

I learnt in my mum's kitchen that feeding a large family on a shoestring budget doesn't mean compromising on quality and flavour, an ethos that not only informs this blog but also the way I approach cooking every day. I hope this blog will be a trusted source of great recipes and a useful resource for local people who want to seek out all the great produce and suppliers Swansea and Gower has to offer. But most of all I hope it will inspire you to express your love through cooking too.
